This month Lilian Goodliffe presents the filmic child of radical film theorists Laura Mulvey and Peter Wollen. While ancient history has assumed a reputation as a male fascination, feminist writers have long been using ancient mythology to revisit women's stories. Mulvey and Wollen's work engage with the woman warrior outside of the male gaze, unsettling patriarchal structures upheld by mainstream cinema.
