(Cancelled) Period Piece

Vogelmorn Hall | Door 7pm | Show 7:30pm

Period piece is a performance art show which takes the audience on seasonal journey of live music, movement and physical theatre. Artistic expression is explored within the narrative of a menstrual cycle, as a creature morphs through space embodying follicles, energy and flow.

This show continues the self-investigation of creator, Eleftheria, reflecting on how her Greek upbringing and whakapapa have shaped her relationship to gender and sexual identity. Key themes revolve around alternative, queer and lowbrow reimaginings of Greek classical, archaic and folk symbolism. These ideas have developed over months of intentionally creating while hyper aware of her menstrual cycle. This piece is informed by tracking the shifts in her artistic voice, inner climate and ways of being alongside the four phases of a period.

Period Piece is a collaboration with musician, Dj and music producer, Laura Louise, who has created an elemental soundscape of bass, layering textures and beats that heighten the storytelling.

About the artists:

Creator and performer: Eleftheria Apostolidis (Aus/NZ) is a performer, clown and creative. Early performances are rooted in burlesque and vintage dances alongside her costume career in theatre and film. She’s further developed her improvised dance with flow props and by performing at music festivals.

Her personal artistic work ranges from textiles, costuming and photography to drawing, painting and illustration. Self expression and authenticity have always been at the core Eleftheria’s being as she continues to creatively shape shift.
