“Wow, you guys gave me so much energy” - MJ Lenderman, 2024

Menzies come to Vogelmorn Upstairs, their home-show as part of their Te Ika-a-Māui 'Spaghetti Land' EP tour. Supported by a very special Timothy Blackman + band set.

Menzies, the Te Whanganui-a-Tara four-piece, have gained a name for arresting live performances. Dancing from weighty post-punk to heart-felt ruminations on childhood, their songs express the wildly relatable.

“Turned up at the Karori swimming pool, and knew I shouldn’t have turned up”, and
“It cost me twenty bucks, you see, to buy my favourite DVD, don’t judge me, it was Notting Hill”

It’s no surprise the band hits so hard with the experience and passion of the musicians involved - magnetic front-man Chris Brown (Friendlies), Miles Sutton (Welcomer, Prizegiving), Nikita Piper (Friendlies, Androgynous Lemon), and Doug Kelly (Doledrums, Girlboss). The band brought in Oliver Devlin (Hans Pucket) to mix the EP, and Tui award winning Vivek Gabriel, Gabriel Audio for mastering.

Timothy Blackman + band:

Te Whanganui-a-Tara singer and DIY recording artist Timothy Blackman makes records drawing from deeply personal experiences in hyper realistic narratives.

In 2019, he released his album Brightest Days written during a period of time spent hiding out on the East Cape and on his return to the capital. He is back performing and testing out new material before embarking on a new recording project accompanied by guitar and a small backing band.
