Daily Keno 7:30pm
Miles Calder 8:45pm

Miles Calder is releasing a hypnotic new single ‘Keeping Up’, the title track for his upcoming EP. Following previous single ‘Pushing & Pulling’, this marks the second song to be released from sessions working with producer Samuel Flynn Scott (The Phoenix Foundation), and showcases the collaboration’s more open creative approach. Recorded as a live full-band jam with unexpected instumentation and improvisation, the track's relentlessly looping rhythm section churns under waves of ominous guitar feedback and cycling synths, while Calder’s echoing vocals feel thrown from the deep subconscious. ‘Keeping Up’ is about hanging in there, with Calder pondering day-to-day angst punctuated by the shrugged chorus refrains.

Daily Keno are returning after releasing their first single ‘Sunlight. Sugar’ with a brand new tune ‘Peaches & Creme' off their upcoming debut album. Recorded at The Surgery in Wellington under the expertise of engineer Lee Prebble. The recording came together seamlessly, tapping into a warm, sleepy, and minimal feeling. ‘Peaches & Creme’ is a retrospective look at past relationships and dependence. The song sonically is spacious, with a vibe, and features classic tones of the Juno synthesiser and dreamy jangling guitar. Front man Mark Sommerville croons with honesty and earnestness. The layered reverberating vocals gently float through the instrumentation, drawing listeners into the small nuances throughout the song.

Double your fun, double dip, double trouble, double down and double time to Vogelmorn Upstairs to catch these two local songwriters.

Wellington songwriter Miles Calder released his debut solo album Autopilot Life in 2021. a self-reflective delve into waking up from an unexamined life, which won over new fans and critics alike & led to a nomination for a prestigious Aotearoa Music Award (Te Kaipuoro Taketake Toa | Best Folk Artist 2022). His full band sound moves from understated folk-rock to swirling psychedelia, evoking late-era Beatles as much as contemporaries like Kevin Morby and Father John Misty.

Daily Keno is the solo project of frontman Mark Sommerville (La Bête), with Riki Gooch (CaveCircles, EruDangerspiel), Jacqui Nyman (Luke Buda, Grayson Gilmour) and Dayle Jellyman (Battleska Galactica). Featuring dreamy and spacious tunes that layer up past, present and future experiences with jangly guitar riffs and soothing vocal lines.
