Come and learn, discuss resilience and help make yourself and our community better prepared to handle disruptive events. DIRT (Disaster Innovation Research and Training) is a community resilience project with support from Vogelmorn Community Group and Massey University.

This Month: #7. Lessons from Cyclone Gabriele

The report of the Government Inquiry into the Response to the North Island Severe Weather Events was released in 2024. While focused on the Emergency Management system, the report also offers lessons and ideas relevant to communities. Anna Pendergrast will talk us through some key areas of the report and facilitate a group discussion of how we could relate them to our neighbourhood. Anna is a writer and strategist living in Brooklyn. She is Co-Lead at Antistatic, where she helps people communicate the issues they are working on in order to drive positive social and environmental change. She was part of the team supporting the Severe Weather Events Inquiry Panel in their work.
