Friday 20th September, 7:30pm
Wellington band Milkthistle (Hamish Graham – guitar/vocals/songwriter, Delia Shanly – drums/vocals, David Downes – keyboards/bass/vocals, David Daniela – viola & Robert Ibell – cello) play their unique style of original string-based indie-folk-rock in a gig.
Hamish Graham formed the band in 1993 to play his growing number of original songs. He especially wanted to utilise the cello, with its rich sonority, melodic possibilities and power in the lower register, to complement drums and guitar.
Over the years, the band has spiralled through various Wellington music scene regulars – with each new incarnation making the songs their own.
Like a river you can’t step in twice – a new band member can suddenly transform a song from the sublimely sweet folk to hard out rock, pseudo-jazz to screaming thrash, classical to upbeat pop.
Doors open 7pm. Tickets $15 in advance from Eventfinda (service fees may apply). Door sales $20. BYO liquid refreshments.
