We’re hiring! Coordinator wanted

If you like the idea of working part time as part of a busy community hub, then this could be your dream job!

The Vogelmorn Community Group Charitable Trust (VCG) is looking for someone who loves dealing with people and cares about community to manage day-to-day admin and venue bookings as well as be the connection point with users, community and arts organisations, funders, suppliers, Council and many more. If you like the idea of being busy and the hub of a thriving community venue, read on!

At a glance

  • Initially ten hours per week (mostly flexible), up to 20 hours as funding secured
  • Pay $25+/hr, negotiable
  • Fixed-term for 3 months but extending as funding is secured
  • Based at Vogelmorn clubrooms, some work can be done remotely
  • Main jobs: handle enquiries and bookings, comms, accounts
  • Other jobs: develop programme, create funding applications, reporting
  • Reports to VCG board of trustees (meets quarterly)



VCG was formed in 2015 as a custodian of the former bowling club buildings at 93 Mornington Road, Brooklyn. The VCG owns and runs this venue for the community and actively participates in nurturing the Vogelmorn Precinct area, which incorporates the clubrooms as well as Council-owned Hall and green. VCG also runs and hosts events, often partnering with other organisations. People from the local area as well as wider Wellington use our venue and attend events. Our values are being inclusive, sustainable, community-driven and creative.

Since we took over management in 2014, hundreds of people have used the venue for music and theatre rehearsals, yoga sessions, drama and music classes, ‘meet the candidate’ events, kids and adults birthday parties, government away days, flm shoots, corporate parties, Scrabble club, flamenco dancing, plus workshops on flower arranging, mushroom cultivation, nonviolent communication, and many more. The venue also hosts the Green Cafe three days a week and a co-working space with six or more part-time users. As well as the Green, VCG’s key tenant and partner is the iconic Barbarian Productions run by local theatre makers Jo Randerson and Thomas Lahood.


What we’re looking for

You’ll be busy and you’ll meet lots of people! This is a varied job and we don’t expect you to know everything in the first five minutes, but we want someone who’s keen to learn. You need to love communicating –  since that’s a huge part of this job, including being responsive and having a good manner on phone, in writing and in person. We’d like someone who’s able to handle lots of things coming at them in the busy times, but also able to get on with background work and find valuable things to do when it’s quiet.

This would be a great job for someone who is flexible wants to continue building a sense of community around physical spaces. We hope you’ll bring some of your own ideas to build community. Ability to levitate a plus.


What we’ll provide

You’ll get space in the clubrooms to do your VCG work. We’ll show you how our various platforms – Loomio, Xero, Google Drive, WordPress, Mailchimp – work if you’re not familiar with them. We’ll take you through our systems and those of our funders and will give you ongoing support.  You will also be able to do some of this from home. (You’ll need your own laptop.)


The work you’ll be doing:

Concierge/hosting: answering booking and venue enquiries, scheduling, liaising with users, showing new hirers around, occasionally help set up for events. This may be weekends as well as on weekdays.

Caretaker – check the venue is in order, tidying and light cleaning, liaise with cleaner, maintenance team and suppliers for upkeep and repairs, keep in touch with core tenants like the Green cafe, co-workers and Barbarian Productions.

Comms – create content for the website, a monthly newsletter, social media and other publications as well as physical signage.

Admin – invoicing and bookkeeping, gathering information for funding applications and reports, monitor health & safety proc.

Programme – develop, promote and assist in delivering programme and events. This will grow as funding and time allows, and there’s scope to build the community development role by expanding VCG’s connection with local and other organisations and expanding the programme.
